Z Humor and Turf War hit the wire together in a dead heat in a thrilling edition of the Delta Jackpot at Delta Towns on Friday night, helping to bring home another small pick 4 win for $63.80. The colt has raced against War Pass, Pyro, and Kodiak Kowboy in previous attempts and I thought would have an easier time with this field. Perhaps the excitement of Friday night under the lights got to him a bit, but he nevertheless came home with enough to score.
Melancon, the jockey aboard #2 Golden Yank (who happened to also be covered on our ticket) lodged an unsuccessful objection at the conclusion of the race saying that the top two finishers had interfered with him in the stretch. From what I saw, it did look like Turf War came in a bit on him and may have caused him a step or two. Admittedly I was watching via the grainy track feed provided by ebetusa.com.
- In race 5, the favorite Cool Wind finished on top with our value play #6 Game for More in 2nd.
- In race 6, our second selection #8 By the Light triumphed paying $6.20 to win
- In race 7, we got the expected two-horse race between Jonesboro and Thunder Mission, finishing in that exact order.
- Z Humor brought the ticket home in the last leg paying $3.20 and splitting the dead heat with Turf War who went off at odds of 33/1.
This marks back to back days we’ve been able to cash on pedestrian pick 4 tickets. We’ll be back with more selections later in the weekend.

best race of the “new year” thus far
they were absolutely flying!!!
It was a good one for sure, Fish! I just wish I could have actually discerned more of what was happening from the horrible feed I was watching. Usually the feeds I get of tracks on ebet are pretty good, but on Friday it was horrible…..I could barely make out the horses and the announcer’s comments were impossible to understand.
I really was hoping that the 2 horse would win that objection…..did it look to you like he was interefered with?
(Updated 12/12/07) – I just read in the DRF today that the owner of #2 Golden Yank have filed an appeal with the Louisiana Racing Commission over the decision by the stewards to disallow the claim of foul by Melancon against Z Humor and Turf War. Apparently the purse money hasn’t been distributed yet and they still feel they have a strong case. I’ll say this, if I could see it on my monitor through the pixilated imaging, I’m guessing someone on the board might just see it as well. There’s about $300k riding on the decision as Z Humor and Turf War stand to receive $400k each for the dead heat and Golden Yank is currently slated to receive $100k for third. This could get interesting!
