That bit about taking advice from the guy in front of or behind you had me laughing out loud (literrally) Roblejeune! :) I used to do that all the time when I was a newbie. I'd change my mind at the last second based on some degenerate gamblers "hunch" and then I'd have the audacity to be mad at him when it was wrong (clearly I accepted no responsibility for my own actions). :)

A horse I don't think we can toss out that might really liven up the exacta payouts is Smooth Air. Probably not good enough to win, but certainly worth considering underneath in the exacta and trifecta plays.

I think you'll get a good price on Pyro. I said to my wife after his Bluegrass finish "he'll be worth a win bet now!" As you know folks will claim something is wrong with him. Look at the laundry list of top notch horses that failed to fire over at Keeneland and I'm pretty comfortable scracthing that race off his past performances. We should get the real Pyro next weekend.

It's hard trying to come up with a cheap ticket. I like the top 4 as solid win candidates, but I can't fathom going that deep on my ticket. Going to have to take a stand somewhere. I've been thinking of this one lately:

Big Brown & Gayego / Big Brown, Gayego, Colonel John & Pyro / Big Brown, Gayego, Colonel John, Pyro, Smooth Air, and Bob Black Jack (if he draws in)

That would be a $24 tri and if I could get something like Gayego on top, with Pyro in 2nd, and either Smooth Air or BBJ in show - it just might be worth the play.

I always play a ridiculously bloated trifecta in the Derby just because it feels so good to actually cash a Derby ticket. That and a few $20 win bets for good measure. :)

NO doub't post position draw will be a big day for Big Brown, other horses somewhat also. Big B needs 3 thru 7, or maybe 11-13. My picks without post position are: Colonel John, and Pyro- (of course) couple in exacta box with Big Brown, but Z Fortune is my mid-shot throw in. None of that is gonna pay much, so it's actually a good race to sit out of betting and just enjoy! That's probably what I'll do, unless I'm at Bay Meadows that day, then I'll bet win ticket on Pyro, might be 4-1 even. Pyro and Z Fortune exacta might pay (huh?) hahaha Here we go again. A head scratchers delight at the window! Do NOT take the guy behind you at the widows advice (warning)!! OR the guy sitting next to you with the racing form!

That's pretty cool, Jim! I may have to share that with friends on Derby day. We were thinking of having a party here, but with a 4 year old running around we thought it might be a bit much. Last year I went to Pimlico and watched the race on the monitors there. I'm thinking I'll be home doing sporadic yard work and trying to make some cash on the undercard this year.

Definitely will partake in some good ole fashioned charcoal grilling that day as well. Probably a healthy dose of Yeungling Lager to wash it all down.

It's a day to live it up like a king for sure. So the million dollar question is - who are you taking, JIm? :)
