The only other fantasy game I've really played was the "take ten" challenge from the steeplechase times - but I didn't see they were running that this year. It's basically the same thing as the RTR.

I definitely need to check ou tthis FRA Challenge. That sounds like something I could actually do halfway decent in.

I've got 2 Road to the Roses stables going, plus Amy had me make her one as well, so techincally we've got three. :)

Yup, that's the add I saw! The Blue Lion is a nice looking horse.

Do you ever play the FRA Challenge on Thoroughbred Times' website? It is a little more forgiving than the Road is. You don't have to have the right horse in your stable already to play. Just pick the winner in each race for the overall contest and W/P/S for the weekly $50. They haven't started it yet, maybe soon.

Your list looks interesting, Riffkind1969. Hope grad school is going well for you. It's always a pleasure when you stop over.

Sally - I saw you in our TBA league. Rock on!!!! I actually did two stables. THe first is "The Aspiring Horseplayer" (the one shown in the post above), the other is "The Aspiring Horseplayer Redux" in another league. IT's basically the same, but I took a shot with Chocolate Candy and Free Country, if memory serves.

OK, I am way too busy with grad school right now to really think this through. It's more of a gut thing for me. I'll share my picks though.

Azul Leon - he's an artist. I saw an ad for horse art where they put blue paint on his hoof. But I was already familiar with his name. He is not getting burnt out early like those that have been working on the Derby for a month now.
Beethoven - has a following. If you don't know too much, you pick a few of these.
Friesian Fire - I agree, no brainer. Nice horse.
Giant Oak - looks the part.
Haynesfield - I just like him.
Laragh - in Europe she would already be sharpening her teeth against males.
Midshipman - Popular. Like I said, I can't keep up while in grad school.
Nicanor - got a soft spot for him. Don't laugh, a lot of people out there do...even if they don't admit it.
Stardom Bound - hoping she can outrun Dutrow.
Vineyard Haven - Back to popular. He bombed his last race though. I think the Shiek is trying too hard. Or maybe he buys the talent, but trainer and/or enviroment don't follow through. Same goes for Midshipman. Won't be there in May..what was I thinking? At least I can buy 2 more stables!
Rafael Bejarano
Robby Albarado
Steve Assmussen - duh!
Bobby Frankel - legend.

I will pick Larry jones in my other stable for sure. Thanks for the analysis Kev. I will apply it to my other stables.
