Helter Skelter can fend off Appleby Duo at Longchamp
17.00 Longchamp, Prix Roland de Chambure
Charlie Appleby looks to have brought over two decent horses in the twice raced Saqqara King and the slightly more highly tried Royal Ascot runner Well Of Wisdom. The English juvenile runners have generally dominated their French counter-parts but this year has seen the home side more than hold their own. The two unbeaten horses Mowaeva and Commander have won minor races and they could well be much better than the bare form. The Rouget trained Helter Skelter was beaten on debut but turned in an imposing win over course and distance 4 weeks ago. He raced wide and travelled with ease throughout, winning by nearly 4 lengths, barely coming off the bridle. He probably didn’t beat anything exceptional but he looks like he could be a really good horse and the 7/2 with the English bookies looks generous.
Recommended bet
Helter Skelter, 7/2
18.10 Longchamp, Maurice De Nieuil Stakes
There is very little between Marmenlo, Call The Wind and Holdthasigreen on their best form. The usually reliable Holdthasigreen ran a poor race last time, finishing unplaced behind Called To The Bar, who had Way To Paris and Call The Wind in second and third. At the prices, I’d give Holdthasigreen a chance to bounce back at 5/1 with the UK bookies.
Recommended bet
Holdthasigreen, 5/1
18.45 Longchamp, Juddmonte Grand Prix De Paris Stakes
Slalom went in to the Prix du Jockey Club undefeated and second choice behind hot favourite Persian King. He failed to run his race after missing break, losing many lengths and finding himself out the back in a poor position and never got involved. Aiden O’Brien has a great record in this race and his Derby third Japan looks to have a great chance, he looks likely to go off odds-on. Slalom should really appreciate the step up in distance, having looked to take time to hit top gear but then finding a good turn of foot, I’ll chance him at 8/1 each-way.
Recommended bet
Slalom, 8/1 eachway
